George Bandarra

Statement

The artwork of George Bandarra combines iron with exotic metals such as stainless steel, copper, brass, bronze, and aluminum to create "hand forged" sculptures and decorative ornamental metal works. This artist is of Portuguese descent, and he skillfully forges the enduring traditions of old to merge with the field of art in producing new and unique fabrications. He has thirty years of experience in forging iron and has commissioned work at Murray State University, Kentucky State Parks System, and the Cairo, Illinois Historic Library. He also has three sculptures registered with the Smithsonian Institute's National Museum of American Art and Cultural Property. He is a member of the international National Ornamental Metals Association, is currently serving on the editorial advisory committee for the international magazine Fabricator, and  he has received four awards for his iron works and sculptures in international competition. He currently resides in Murray, Kentucky, where he operates The Iron Hammer. This exhibit affords the opportunity to view the elegance of iron transformed into exquisite three-dimensional sculptures and art pieces.
